OBITUARY:
Emmett – [Died] At the residence of A.M. Rainwater in Benton County, Jan 18, 1890, D.W. Emmett, aged 76 years and two months. Mr Emmett crossed the plains in 1852 and was the first settler in Fox Valley on the upper Santiam. After living there five years he moved to Polk county where he has resided, three and a half miles west of Salem, ever since, and was on a visit to his daughter, Mrs Rainwater, when he died. He went there last September and had a stroke of paralysis, since which time he has been gradually sinking. His family consists of five boys and two girls, all grown.
