OBITUARY:

Wilsonville - The one and only Barnes Deering Rogers left us Thursday, December 1, 2016.

Barney was born September 8, 1931 in Yakima, WA, the only child of Genevieve Rogers. He attended Salem High School (where he met Ginger Currier, mother of his 4 children), and then Oregon State University, earning a BS in Accounting, Architecture & Building Construction. He held OSU close throughout the years, all 4 children and many grandchildren also attended. He proudly supported the refurbishing of Weatherford Hall, as the new home of College of Business -Entrepreneurship Learning Center. We all share the pride that one of the dormitory rooms has his name on it!

In 1953 he began his business career with The Equitable, selling life insurance door-to-door! In 1961 he joined The Standard Insurance Company where he was Agency Manager (and always a salesman) until he retired in 1994. Barney owned Homer Smith Insurance Agency ('71-'91). He also created and co-owned with his long time friend, Gerry Frank's Konditorei (est.1981).

Barney was active and passionate about his community service and contributed both personally and financially to: United Good Neighbors, YMCA, St Paul's Episcopal Church, Willamette University, Salem Hospital, OSU, Oregon Community Foundation, and the Oregon Garden Foundation, to name a few.

He loved spending time at his home at D Lake and Palm Springs and traveled to many countries. But what was most important to him was his family and spending special time with all of them.

Dad had a wonderful, colorful, and busy life. He loved music and musicals (and was usually the first to cry in the theater). He was physically active (he played racquetball until his late 70s!). He was a tenacious and dedicated businessman and a planner extraordinaire. His drink of choice was scotch on the rocks and he loved a good empty-the-fridge salad, way back in the 70's when that was more of an 'earthy' thing. Weekends he would load us all up and make record time to the lake house in our Buick Riviera - he loved cars: old, new, classy, fast. He was strong of leadership and opinion and of course we did not always agree. He is terribly missed. Dad instilled in us the bonds and the strength of close family ties, love, and respect. And what could be a better legacy than that?

Dad is survived by: wife Marcia, sons Mark Rogers, and T. Jay Rogers, daughters Lisa Bakke and Mary Gregoire, extended family Tina Rogers, Michelle Rinehart, Steve Bakke, Ray Gregoire, Chris and Linae Sielicky. Grandchildren: Kristin Caldwell, Ashley Rogers, Mikayla Rogers, Bryan Rogers, Anna Rogers, Nicole Gregoire, Jordan Gregoire, Danielle Gregoire, Alexx Sielicky, Zach Sielicky, Hannah Raines and Madison Raines. Great-Grandchildren: Tayler, Mylee, and Josiah Caldwell.

Donations gratefully accepted to his favored: OHSU Heart, Kidney, or Cancer Centers.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 2:00pm, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1444 Liberty St SE, Salem
