Oregon Statesman, (Salem, Oregon) January 10, 1930

Millard F. White, 76, one of the best known men in Polk county, dropped dead from a heart attack at his home in the Crowley district a few miles north of Rickreall on Tuesday morning about 8 o’clock. Mr White was going from the house to the barn when stricken. Funeral services will be held at the family residence at 1 o’clock Friday, Jan 10, and burial will be in the Zena cemetery beside other members of his family. Mr White had been a very spry and active man for his years. He had followed the profession of auctioneer for a period of 50 years and had continued active in that work until the time of his death. He had maintained his farm home, which was slightly and nicely cared for, but had rented the farm land for a number of years. He took pride in his health and vigor, and an article published two months ago in the Itemizer Observer by Ed C. Dunn related how he had looked after the work about the place, harvesting his own cherries and other fruit. Mr White was born in Missouri November 16, 1853, and came to Polk county with his parents by ox-team in 1865. He had lived on his place near Crowley for 52 years. He is survived by his widow and four children: Henry White, former chief of police of Tillamook, but now a rancher in that county; Homer White, Portland; Mrs Myrtle Trent, McMinnville, and Mrs Gussie Gagne, San Francisco, Calif. Few men in Polk county could boast of a larger or warmer circle of personal friends. He had been in very good health up to the day of his death. Monday he was in Dallas to attend the funeral of Charles Whaley and Frank Bihl and had visited various places about the city. He had been in the Itemizer Observer office to renew his subscription to the Itemizer Observer and to send the paper to two of his children, a custom he had followed for many years.
