Ruth Knapp Stratton, Sept 3, 1898-May 12, 1991

Ruth Knapp Stratton, 92, of Salem died Sunday in Salem. She was born in Ottawa, Ill, and grew up in Illinois. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin’s School of Library. Her career included the following: children’s librarian for the Portland Library Association; librarian for the Van Nuys, Calif, branch; employee at Salem Public Library; state supervisor at Oregon Works Progress Administration; and resource librarian for the Oregon State Library. She retired in 1966. She married Vivian A. Stratton in 1929; he died in 1971. She was a member of the Salem First Presbyterian Church, Daughters of American Revolution and the Willamette Town and Gown. She enjoyed gardening and collecting antiques. Survivors include stepdaughters, Ila Nelson of Seattle and Olive Johnston of Spokane, Wash; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will begin at 1 pm Thursday in Zena Cemetery, West Salem. Memorial services will begin at 2 pm Friday in Capital Manor Chapel. Visiting will be from 9 am to 5 pm Wednesday and from 9 am to noon Thursday in Barrack mortuary.
