OSBH DC (Marion County 1952) #12491 - James Julian Stratton, male, farm owner, married (Ila), b. 11 Nov 1874 in Zenia [Xenia], Ohio, d. 22 Nov 1952 in Salem, Oregon (Salem Hospital) at the age of 78 years, name of father Alfred Stratton, maiden name of mother Ann King, interment Zena; informant V.A. Stratton.

OBITUARY: 

Services for James Julian Stratton, Salem Route 1, who died at a local hospital Saturday, will be held Tuesday at 1:30 pm in the Clough-Barrick Chapel. Interment will be at Zena Cemetery. Stratton, a prominent fruit rancher and farmer of North Spring Valley in Polk County, was born Nov 11, 1875, in Zenia, O. He moved at the age of seven years with his parents to the Dakota territory. He graduated from high school at Aberdeen, SD, following which he taught school, farmed and worked for the telephone company installing many of the first telephones in that area. He married Ida M. Chute in 1896 and in 1906 they moved to Oregon buying the farm on which they now live. He was a member of the Federal Land Bank Board for many years, serving as president his last term. He was also a member of the local telephone board and the school board for many years. Survivors include his widow, Mrs Ida Stratton and a son, V.A. Stratton, both of Salem.
