OBITUARY: 

Michael Smith died at the home of Ralph Early February 18, aged 81 years and 4 months. The remains were shipped to Salem Saturday for burial in Zena cemetery. The deceased was visiting at the home of his daughter, Mrs Ralph Early, when he was taken sick, and was unable to be removed to his home, the illness finally culminating in his death. He leaves a wife and five children, the latter being Mrs Fanny Butts, at Spaulding, Iowa; John Smith of Salem; Mrs Ella Witham of St Johns, Ore; Michael Smith of Salem; and Mrs Ralph Early of Hood River.
