OBITUARY:
Mrs Bessie E. Smith, 61, 2345 Silverton Road NE, died Sunday in a Portland hospital where she had been under treatment the past three weeks. She was a lifelong resident of Salem. Survivors include the widower Clifford L. Smith, Salem; daughters Mrs Doreen Nelson, Eugene; and Mrs Doris Eschleman, Roseburg; sons Howard and Gene Smith, both of Salem; sister Mrs Jessie Smith, Salem; brothers Arthur Buell, Olympia, Wash, Scire Buell, Tacoma, Wash, and Nathan Buell, Oortland; and six grandchildren. Services will be 10:30 am Tuesday in the Barrick chapel, Rev W. Harold Lyman officiating. Interment will be in Zena Cemetery south [sic; north] of Salem.
