Lt. Colonel Paul L. Purvine, Retired Paul L. Purvine, 94, passed away February 19, 2003. Paul was born July 2, 1908, in Salem, Oregon where the Purvine family settled as early pioneers in the 1840's. He served with honor in the U.S. Army Ordnance Corps for 33 years, attaining the rank of Lt. Colonel. His career took him all over the world, but he returned to the Pacific Northwest in retirement, settling in Seattle. Paul was an accomplished boater and served as Commander of the Seattle Sail and Power Squadron. An active member of the Seattle Genealogical Society, he delved into the history of the Purvine family. He leaves family, friends, and colleagues a legacy of dedication to country, sound practical sense tempered with humor, and responsibility for those entrusted to his care. Paul is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen; sons Dennis, Stephen and Philip; and 5 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 3, 2003, 3:00 p.m. at Church of the Ascension, 2330 Viewmont Way W, Seattle. Interment will be at the Spring Valley Cemetery in Zena, OR.
