At the family home near Zena, Friday morning at 2:55 o’clock, January 12, 1894, Davis Gibson died from la grippe, aged 81 years, 5 months and 13 days. “Uncle” Davis, as he was familiarly known, was born in Missouri in 1812. In 1849 he crossed the plains to California and after a short time returned to Illinois. In 1852 he again crossed the plains with the ox teams and brought his family. He leaves a wife, four sons and two daughters to mourn his demise. The funeral was held at Zena Sunday and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery near that place.
