Pennsylvania, along with Walter C., age 17, b. Oregon, Earl S., age 16, b. Indiana, Crawford C., age 13, b. Oregon, Carrie B., age 10, b. Oregon, and Andrew C., age 8, b. Oregon.
1930 OR CENSUS - Melvin Eakin, age 232, occupation sawmill worker, b. Oregon, is enumerated with his wife Sarah, age 20, b. Oregon, along with Minerva H., age 6 months, b. Oregon.

OBITUARY: 
EAKIN -- Melvin S. "Dick" Eakin, 80, Monmouth, died in a Corvallis hospital on June 3.  He was born in Summit, Oregon, April 5, 1907.  He lived in Philomath and Alsea area where he worked for the Rex Clemens Logging Co., for 37 years. 
He was preceded in death by a son Marvin, and his wife, Sarah, in 1947.  He moved to the Pedee area where he married Mary Beth Burbank on August 21, 1954.  They have lived in the Pedee area since and Dick retired from logging in 1973.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Eakin; a son, Merle Eakin of Sutherland; a daughter Melva Hink of Idleyld Park, Oregon; stepsons, Wes, Kennethe and Don Burbank of Monmouth; step-daughters, Alberta Jones, Monmouth, and Twila Ware of Lake Oswego; 25 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services were June 6, 1987, in the Pedee Memorial Evangelical Church, Rev. Robert Trosen officiating.  Interment followed in the Womer Cemetery, Pedee.  Bollman Funeral Home, Dallas, was in charge of arrangements.
