1880 WA CENSUS - Joseph Brown (farmer, 27y, b OR); enumerated with him were wife Belle (24y, b IA), son Frank (2y, b WA) and dau Hattie (11m, b WA)
NOTE - Joseph and Isabella were divorced. Isabella m2 on 8 June 1884 to Elmer LeCornu (Walla Walla Co, Washington, marriage records). They appear in the 1900 census of Stevens pct, Spokane Co, Washington (ED 52, page 118). Isabelle died in 1914 and is buried in the Chewelah Pioneer Cemetery, Stevens Co, Washington (photo of tombstone on Find-A-Grave)
1900 OR CENSUS - Joseph L. Brown, age 47 occupation farmer, b. Nov 1852 in Oregon (father b. Ohio; mother b. Missouri), is enumerated with his wife Matilda, age 41, mother of no children, b. May 1859 in Missouri.

OBITUARY: 
Joseph L. Brown, after having been a resident of Polk county for over 70 years, died at his home one mile east of Dallas on December 25. He was born near Dallas on November 28, 1852, being a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Brown, one of the pioneer couples of Polk county. Practially all his life was spent in this county. Until a short time ago he followed farming for many years on Salt Creek. 
Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Matilda E. Brown, and one son in Spokane, Washington, Frank L. Brown. 
Funeral services were held from the Chapman & Henkle parlors on Wednesday afternoon, Rev A.L. Lonsberry, pastor of the Dallas Evangelical church, officiating. Interment was made in the Brown family cemetery north of Dallas.
