Lloyd Hanson, March 8, 1926-April 4, 1999
Lloyd Theodore Hanson of McMinnville died April 4. He was 73. Raised and educated in Bend by his parents, Oscar and Lois Wagner Hanson, he graduated from Willamette University, receiving his master’s degree in English Literature from University of Oregon. He then pursued his doctorate studies at University of Utah and University of Oregon. He served as a medic in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Colleen Emery on August 21, 1953. He taught high school in seaside for several years before moving to Monmouth in 1961, where he was an English professor at what is now Western Oregon University until retiring in 1992. A year later he moved to McMinnville. As a member of the Pentacle Theater, he played a lead role in numerous dramatic and musical productions. He was a published lyricist, poet and playwright ass well as an accomplished pianist and vocalist. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was preceded in death by his wife, Colleen in 1990, and his daughter, Katie Hanson in 1966. Survivors include his daughters, Mara Hanson of Roseville, Mich, Lisa Kohler of Albuquerque, Sarah Myer of Baker City and Eve Olsen of Salem; sons, Danmiel of Monmouth, Eric of McMinnville, Gordon Hanson of Portland and Philip Hanson of Monmouth; and sisters Margaret Moore of Bend, and Judy Patterson of Wilsonville; and 28 grandchildren. Funeral services will begin at 1 pm on Saturday, April 10 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Monmouth. Interment will follow at Fircrest Cemetery [sic; Smith cemetery].
