OBITUARY: 
Edward Henry Stineff Jr, Aug 27, 1938-Aug 21, 2011 Edward Henry Stineff Jr, 72, longtime Monmouth resident and community contributor, died Aug 21 from complications of pulmonary fibrosis. He was born in DeRidder, La, to Edward Henry and Leona Stineff. Most of his childhood was spent in Anacortes, Wash, where he graduated from Anacortes High school in 1956. He graduated from Linfield College in 1960 with a bachelor’s degree. He worked for Boeing in Seattle, spent his military service in the Army in Boston and then returned to Seattle to begin his career in the insurance business with Safeco. He followed this career path from Seattle to Pendleton, LaGrande, Salem and Monmouth. There, he purchased his own agency, which is now known as Stineff Insurance Services in Monmouth, in 1974. Ed sold this agency and retired in 1996. In retirement he spent a lot of time in the Palm Springs, Calif, area. Ed was very involved with his family and community. He served as president of Monmouth-Independence Chamber of Commerce, president of the Western Oregon University Foundation, chairman of the Jobs Council for the Mid-Willamette Valley, and countless other organizations. He was named the First Citizen of Monmouth-Independence in 1983. He was also a member of the Central Lions Club, Independence Elks Club, Oak Knoll Golf Course and Cross Creek Golf Course. Ed enjoyed family and friends, travel, golf, reading and fine dining. He was very proud of getting a hole-in-one at Desert Dunes in Palm Springs in 2003. He was a remarkably successful player of cards. He loved life and fought a lengthy battle against heart and lung disease and cancer. Survivors include his wife, Pat; son, Matt (Andrea) of Homer, Alaska; daughter, Jennifer (Jon) Coney of Portland; stepdaughter, Katie (Mike) Moran of Salem; stepson, Theron (Marlene) Roe of Philomath; sister, Leta Benfield of Anacortes; and nine grandchildren. Celebration of Ed’s life will be Monday, Aug 29, at 5 pm at Green Villa Barn, 3110 Independence Highway, Independence. Contributions are suggested to the Western Oregon University Foundation.
