OBITUARY: Died at his residence near Lewisville, Polk Co, March 25, 1872, Mr. James Smith, Sen. in the 70th year of his age. Mr. Smith was born in Washington county, Virginia, Oct. 18, 1802; came to Oregon in 1846 and has been a resident of the Willamette Valley ever since. He joined the M.E. Church in 1838, lived and died true to the faith; he was well-known and respected, and will be mourned by a large circle of friends.
