OBITUARY:
BACK BROKEN
George McDowell Falls From Link Hop House
While drying hops at the F.A. Link hop house on the Luckiamute Tuesday evening George McDowell sustained injuries that are very serious and will in all probability cause his death. After nightfall in the course of his duties as dryer he went out on the approach to the house. His prolonged absence was noticed by others employed there, and search was made for him. He was found lying on the ground in an unconscious condition. Drs. Starbuck and Bollman were called, and Dr. Bollman has been with him almost continuously since. He is in a paralyzed condition from the waist down. His condition is such that only superficial examination can be made, but the doctors believe the spinal cord to be injured, if not entirely severed. Mr. McDowell is, as we believe, a native of Polk county. He is a brother of Mrs. Thos Guthrie and J.B. McDowell, of Falls City. His parents were former residents of this county, but now reside at Elk City.
