OBITUARY: 
Funeral services for Esther Jane Hastings 83, a late resident of 639 C Street, was held Saturday at 2 o’clock from the Smith-Krueger funeral home. Rev James A. Bell officiaited. Mrs Hastings died Wednesday the 4th at a Dallas Nursing home following a long illness. Born March 19, 1873 to Elijah and Wincy Rose near Independence Mrs Hastings spent most of her life at Airlie with the exception of a few years spent at Kahlotus, Washington. She was married in Salem to Sam Hastings also of Airlie who passed away in 1943. To them were born three daughters. Surviving are her three daughters Mrs Ruth Davis, Deaver, Wyoming, Mrs Laurence Davis, Toledo, Mrs Russell Ostrander, Bremerton, Wash, two sisters, Mrs Nancy Berlin, Olympia, Wash, Mrs Maude Thrasher, Corvallis, two brothers, Burris Rose of Portland and Pearl Rose, Seattle, Wash. There are ten grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren. Interment was in the English Cemetery at Monmouth.
