OBITUARY:
F. Marion Waters, County Pioneer, Passes August 13.
F. Marion Waters, who died August 13 at his home in Dallas, was a pioneer of Polk county, having been born here and having spent his entire life here. He was born April 11, 1874, in McTimmonds Valley where his parents had settled some years previously. Both parents had come to Oregon when they were children and his mother’s family had settled at Ritner.
He attended school at Lewisville and later farmed in McTimmonds Valley utnil about 1914 when he bought farm land near Airlie. In 1906 he was married to Margaret Gertrude Staats, a cousin of Tracy Staats of Dallas. She died in 1935 and December 16, 1936, he was married to Mrs Della Watson, who survives him. Mr. and Mrs. Waters lived at Airlie until 1942 when their farm was taken over by the government for Cap Adair. Mr. Waters then retired from farming and they moved to Dallas where they had since made their home. He became ill in July and failed rapidly until his death Thursday, Aug 13.
Mr. Waters was a successful farmer and acquired considerable property before his retirement. He was regarded as a good neighbor. During his latter years he always looked froward to visits with his old friends at the annual Lewisville-Airlie picnics. He leaves many friends to mourn his passing.
In addition to his widow, Mrs. Della Waters, he is survived by one stepson, Kenneth waters of Minden, Nevada, three stepdaughters, Mrs. Marie Blonden of Folson, Calif, Mrs. Eva Guthra of Portola, Calif, and Mrs. Ida Bemis of Dallas. There are four sisters, Mrs. Della Bronson, Harrisburg, Allice Waters, Portland and Etta Parsons and Gertrude Steidler, Seaside; three nephews and two nieces.
Funeral services were conducted August 17 at the Bollman Funeral Home with Rev. J. Trobert Wetzel of the Evangelical United Brethren church officiating. Interment was in the English cemetery at Monmouth.
