OBITUARY: 
Funeral services for the late Washington (Dick) Tom, well known early Benton county pioneer, who passed away at his home in the Valley View community, in northern Benton county Tuesday evening will be held in the chapel of the Keeney Funeral Home, Friday at 10 a.m. Rev Clarence W. Reynolds, pastor of the First Christian church of Corvallis, will officiate and interment will be in the family plot in the English cemetery near Airlie, Polk county.
 Mr Tom was born in Missouri, October 14, 1854, and while still a child he crossed the plains with his parents by ox-team the family locating in the Alsea valley. After many years residence there Mr. Tom moved to Corvallis where he served as night officer on the local police force for a long period of time. 
He was married to Miss Adeline Berry at Albany 57 years ago and she passed away in 1939. Last Thanksgiving he was united in marriage to Mrs. Mary Gross who survives. Mr. Tom had resided in the Valley View community for the past ten years and in spite of his advanced age had been unusually active in carrying on his farming activities. Besides his widow, he is also survived by one daughter Mrs Edna Miller, Lebanon; ten grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, and other relatives.
