OBITUARY: 
Eleanor Arlene Bethers, Aug. 2, 1919-Sept. 21, 1991.
Graveside services for Eleanor Arlene Bethers will be Tuesday at 2 pm in the Edwards Cemetery in Pedee. The Rev. Herman Adcock will officiate. Vault interment will follow. 
Mrs. Bethers died Saturday at Good Samaritan Hospital at the age of 72. She was born Aug 2, 1919 to Alvin Edwards and Jessie Bevens in Pedee, Ore, in the same house her father had been born in on the family’s original homestead. She attended schools in Philomath, graduating from high school there in 1937. After graduation, she worked for the Corvallis Post Office and then at the Camp Adair Postal Department during World War II. She married Merle L. Bethers in Vancouver, Wash, on May 14, 1945. She worked at home several years, and then worked as a florist for Matt-Mathes Florers for many more years. 
Mrs. Bethers enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with her husband, who preceded her in death in 1990. She also spent time sewing, raising flowers and gardening. Her most important interest was family and grandchildren. Each year she traveled to Alaska to visit relatives. 
She is survived by her son, Mike Bethers, his wife Astrid and their children Monika and Shawn, of Auke Bay, Alaska; brother Harley Edwards of Juneau, Alaska; sisters, LaVelle Shaw and Harlene Stratton of Philomath and Verna Spurgeon of Mehama; and numerous niedes and nephews. Her sister, Lorene Hamm, preceded her in death in 1989. 
Visitation will be Monday from 4 pm to 7 pm and Tuesday from 9 am to noon at the McHenry Funeral Home, 206 NW Fifth St, Corvallis. Memorial contributions may be made to the Philomath EMTs, in care of Joyce Myers at P.O. Box 573, Philomath, Ore, 97370.
