DISCREPENCY – The Oregon Statesman obituary has many errors. It gives Margaret’s age as 80 while the census recoreds show she was younger; it gives the cemetery name as Burt rather than Burch, it says she married John Howell for whom Howell Prairie was named, while the Howell Prairie cemetery book shows John was actually her husband’s [Wesley Howell] father.
DISCREPENCY - her husband's birth place is given as Indiana, in 1850 and 1870, and Tennessee in 1860 and 1880.

DEATH CERTIFICATE:

OBITUARY:
Died at the Oregon Hospital for the Insane, Sunday, September 1, 1901, Mrs. Margaret Howell, aged 80 years.
Deceased was a pioneer of 1844, coming to Oregon with her parents in the same party with Hon. John Minto. She married John Howell who settled on Howell Prairie in the pioneer days and after whom the prairie was named. Her husband died a number of years ago, and the lady’s mind failing, she was placed in the asylum for treatment. She leaves two sons and two daughters residing in Eastern Oregon to mourn her demise. The remains of the deceased were yesterday turned over to her brother, Joshua McDaniel of Rickreall, and by him conveyed to his Polk county home, where the funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today. Interment will be had in the Burt [Burch] cemetery near Rickreall.
