1850 OR CENSUS - Ira A. Hooker, age 70, occupation farmer, b. Vermont, is enumerated with Sarah, age 65, b. New York, along with Harriet T., age 21, b. Illinois.

Ira Allen Hooker was born in Windom Co., Vermont, son of Isreal Scott Hooker and Mary Constance Moors.  He married Sarah Taylor on August 16, 1806 in Saratoga Co., New York.  Sarah was born January 11, 1786 in New York.  Their first five children were born in New York.  Two more were born in Morgan Co., Illinois with a total of seven children.  All but one son came West traveling by wagon train from St. Joseph, Missouri following the Oregon Trail and arriving September 9th of 1848.  They settled on a Donation Land Claim in the Airlie area of Polk County in Oregon Territory.  September 9, 1850 Ira A. Hooker filed his claim in Oregon City.  Affiants were Lambert McTimmonds and Samuel J. Gardner.  He lived until August 1, 1857, age 76 years 3 months 30 days and was buried in the Burch Pioneer Cemetery.
